Ullswater in Cumbria, the Lake District - England’s “Most Beautiful Lake”
Welcome to Ullswater, England’s most beautiful lake. Located in the Lake District National park in Cumbria Ullswater provides the ideal destination for holiday makers. It is England’s second largest lake and sits amidst the splendour of some of the finest fells in Lakeland. It is also the setting for William Wordsworth’s famous “Daffodils” poem.
The clean clear Lake itself provides a huge range of activities and watersports, including sailing, the Ullswater Steamers, kayaking, fishing, boat trips and more, and the surrounding area has some of the best walking country in the Lakes, with nearby fells including Helvellyn. The countryside provides a vast variety of walks from short amble to challenging hill walking. There are also facilities for other healthy outdoor activities such as horse-riding, cycling, mountain-biking, rock-climbing and many more.
The many towns and villages around the Lake include Glenridding, Patterdale, Pooley Bridge and smaller hamlets like Watermillock and Howtown. Each has a charm and character all its own and also boast a great range of places to eat, shops and facilities. Ullswater is in the beautiful Eden Valley of Cumbria.
In addition there is also a great range of holiday accommodation around Ullswater, including lakeside hotels, wonderful B&Bs, self catering holiday cottages, and a great range of campsites and caravan parks. Ullswater also provides the perfect backdrop for a Lake District Wedding.

We are proud supporters of the Patterdale Mountain Rescue team who provide a dedicated and professional service in keeping the fells around Ullswater safe. They are all volunteers and are funded entirely through public donations, so please feel free to donate generously!
Please be safe when enjoying Ullswater and the surrounding fells. There have been numerous incidents already on Helvellyn in 2013. Remember the conditions can change rapidly. Always make sure you’re properly equipped and if in doubt consult an expert.
