Ullswater in Cumbria, the Lake District - England’s “Most Beautiful Lake”
Welcome to Ullswater, England’s most beautiful lake. Located in the Lake District National park in Cumbria Ullswater provides the ideal destination for holiday makers. It is England’s second largest lake and sits amidst the splendour of some of the finest fells in Lakeland. It is also the setting for William Wordsworth’s famous “Daffodils” poem.
The clean clear Lake itself provides a huge range of activities and watersports, including sailing, the Ullswater Steamers, kayaking, fishing, boat trips and more, and the surrounding area has some of the best walking country in the Lakes, with nearby fells including Helvellyn. The countryside provides a vast variety of walks from short amble to challenging hill walking. There are also facilities for other healthy outdoor activities such as horse-riding, cycling, mountain-biking, rock-climbing and many more.
We are proud supporters of the Patterdale Mountain Rescue team who provide a dedicated and professional service in keeping the fells around Ullswater safe. They are all volunteers and are funded entirely through public donations, so please feel free to donate generously!
Please be safe when enjoying Ullswater and the surrounding fells. There were numerous incidents on Helvellyn in 2014. Remember the conditions can change rapidly. Always make sure you’re properly equipped and if in doubt consult an expert.

Sunshine is not guaranteed but even when the mountains are shrouded in a mysteriously moving mist, revealing and concealing the streaking white waterfalls, or a brisk wind gusts down from Patterdale, whipping the water into white horses that race the length of the lake to Pooley Bridge, Ullswater is still breathtakingly beautiful.
In a lifetime of living in or visiting the Lake District, you could never tire of Ullswater, never fail to be inspired or soothed by it. Why not try regular Ullswater Holidays to make the most of it!
