Accommodation Summary
Downstairs: Superb farmhouse kitchen with aga, sofa and over 600 books. Exposed beams throughout. Fantastic sitting room/dining room with open fire.
Upstairs: 3 bedrooms (2 double (one ensuite), one double/twin). Family bathroom. All rooms have superb views.
Other Facilities: Central heating, over 65 works of art on the walls,maps, books, games, sky TV, Free WiFi. Linen provided.
Pets: Unfortunately we cannot accept pets.

Outside: Walk straight onto the fell from Crookwath Cottage and leave the car behind for a week! Many walks from the doorstep, including Helvellyn, the Dodds, Gowbarrow, Birket Fell and Lucy's Wood (our own 22 acre haven).

Nearest Pub/Restaurant: We can arrange for a dinner party to be cooked for you at Crookwath by our local gastronomic cook Anna. The Royal Hotel in Dockray is less than a mile away. The Sharrow Bay Michelin Starred restaurant is at the northern end of Ullswater (about 50 mins drive). There are also other good pubs within 20 minutes including the Horse and Farrier (Threlkeld), The Mill Inn (Mungrisedale) and The Pheasant (Bassenthwaite).
Nearest Shops: Keswick and Penrith are within 30 minutes drive for a good range of local shops as well as supermarkets. Patterdale and Glenridding have a range of local shops, a post office and local garage.

Welcome to Crookwath Cottage, a traditional Lakeland stone cottage set high up in the fells above Ullswater. The ultimate peaceful place for complete stillness and silence with only the sounds of nature to nurture your soul. We are 350 meters above Matterdale in the very remote valley of Dowthwaite in the heart of the Lake District National Park.
Our holiday cottage sleeps 6 and offers stunning panoramic views all around. It pretty much defines the phrase “walks from the door” as you can leave the car for the week and walk directly onto the fells.
The cottage, like any well-loved family home, is crammed with original art, photographs, books, games, open fires and much else to excite young and old. We have 3 bedrooms, a superb farmhouse kitchen and large living room/dining room.
Our self catering cottage is just 5 minutes from Ullswater, with it’s many pleasures including sailing, canoeing and of course walking. As well as our local walks we are also close to Helvellyn and the Eastern Fells.
You can also enjoy the privacy and peace of Lucy’s 22 Acre Wood, just 5 minutes walk from the cottage, with its tranquil Barn, Labyrinth and the BBQ area. Our stone horseshoe seat built high up in the woodland area has spectacular views over the Ullswater fells, Aira Beck and water falls. You can also enjoy a wild swim in Aira Beck and an evening star gazing beside a blazing warming Chiminea.
