To promote and facilitate the sport of sailing, both racing and cruising, on Ullswater, compatible with the preservation of the natural beauty and serenity of the area.
Sailing Club Summary
Boats: We sail a diverse range of boats on Ullswater from modern fast sailing dinghies, to the International Tempest racing keelboat and racing cruisers (up to 25ft overall). We also have slower family dinghies and cruisers as well as Topper racing for Juniors.
Storage: Our dinghy park has limited storage so please use a launching trolley not a road trailer. Limited winter storage is available when booked in advance. Some Cruiser moorings are available at the club and elsewhere on the lake. Please contact us for details.
Racing: We have an extensive racing programme throughout the year with races for all levels every weekend. The highlight of the year is the Lord Birkett Memorial Trophy on the first weekend in July. Click for the UYC 2012 Race Calendar.
Club House: Our club house has great views across Ullswater and offers a full range of excellent and modern facilities.
Accommodation: We have a small campsite for tents only. Caravans are not allowed on the site but motor caravans are allowed on certain race weekends. There is of course a huge range of other local Ullswater Accommodation.
Helping Out: The UYC is run largely by its members on a voluntary basis and so all new members should be prepared to undertake a duty - usually only one weekend a season, as either Race officer or as part of the Rescue Teams.
Children: We are a very family friendly sailing club but of course we respectfully request that all children under the age of 16 are under the supervision of a responsible adult at all times both on and off the water.
